Each Intellect – Strategists, EQs, Networkers, and PDs – think on fundamentally different dimensions. They communicate differently. They value different things. They seek different rewards. They attack their work in radically different ways. They prioritize differently. They filter their surroundings in different ways. They make decisions differently.
It should be no surprise that left to their own devices, individuals will feel most comfortable around others with the same intellect. It should be no surprise to learn that we tend to hire people with the same Intellect, fill out our teams with people of our own image. We have an inherent mistrust of someone who thinks, communicates, is motivated, and works in a different way than we do. Yet, we know that our work results are better when we have a diversity of talent on the team. For some Intellects, the inherent mistrust factor is more pronounced. Let’s take a look at the inherent dynamic between PDs and EQs.
How PDs perceive EQs:
- Shallow
- Don’t have the facts
- Not sure they can be trusted, because they don’t have all of the facts
- Couldn’t deliver anything
- No substance
- Avoid Contact
And if we turn this around and look at how EQs perceive PDs, we get:
- Geeks, nerds, propeller heads
- Couldn’t sell their way out of a paper bag
- Don’t know how to spin
- Pedantic
- Nuts and bolts
- They want to tell me everything they know
These two intellects inherently mistrust each other because they think on different dimensions. At OND we replace this inherent mistrust with absolute respect for one another’s Intellect.
