In the old days, new company employees joined their new team fully expecting it to be the greener grass they had always hoped for.
The first day was great. There were smiles from everyone, lunch with the team leader and a handshake with the big boss on the 5th floor. But by the middle of the second day, reality dawned. The anti-management sarcasm, the lethargy, the unhelpfulness of colleagues, the general dysfunction. It was all so déjà vu. They’d stepped out of the frying pan and into another frying pan. What a relief that never happens any more.
Except..it does.
Despite psychometrics and skill-to-role matching and the best intentions of everyone involved, new recruits are still joining companies – or transferring within the same company – and getting bogged down in teams that don’t work. The statistics from Deloitte, Gartner and every other research group shows that in terms of building teams that work, we’re no better than we were in the middle 20th century. Teams have become career graveyards. They’re where dreams go to die.
OND believes it doesn’t have to be that way. Teams should be places where everyone is doing the work they were made for, places where our talents* are engaged and encouraged to flow. When our talents are flowing freely each day we are motivated because we are doing what we love. Our dreams take wing. And when we are working in a team where everybody’s talents are flowing freely – doing what they love – we are over the moon. It’s the closest thing to heaven on earth most of us will ever find.

We believe everyone in the world deserves this. We want everyone’s talents, worldwide, to flow freely within teams that work. It’s what we were made for.
*Talents should not be confused with skills. Talents are the power stations of endeavor inside our heads that fuel our purpose and will to achieve. Each of us has different talents hard-wired within us. We cannot change them. They channel how we apply our skills. Talents are close to our soul and we only become our best self when we engage them in our work.
